Donner Pass

I've been dying to ride on the south side of Buckhorn road but haven't had a chance all summer. This past Sunday Trujillo and I ventured out to ride Donner Pass.

The trail is technical and steep...so in an effort to avoid hiking for 1.5 hours we thought we could link up some forest roads to the top. Within a few miles we came to this....

Of course Jason thought it was a good idea to poach...so we did.....we rode for another 45 mins. or so but had zero luck finding a route to the top....we actually ended up doing a couple mile loop and ended back at this gate. We did however find some serious looking mushrooms.

We resorted to climbing...I mean pushing our bikes up the singletrack...which took about 1.5 hours...but ultimately came to Donner Pass.

The terrain is super rugged, rocky, rooty and tight. We hung at the top before a thunderstorm chased us 5 miles to the bottom. It was an awesome descent...well worth the hike. Still desiring to find this mysterious road to the top Jason had another brilliant idea.....drive his truck up this trail...

Obviously you shouldn't be driving a truck up this. Needless to say his truck has a lot of fresh scratches!

The red mushrooms with the pretty white spots are extremely deadly, called amenitas. You can remember this by the well-known saying in the "shroomer's" world, "Never eat a amanita".
